Exit Interview - January 2019

Exit Interview - January 2019

1. Comment about your work ethic in this course.
I think that I had an great work ethic in this course. I finished most of my assignments on time and to my best ability. I got a 90 or 100% on all my assignments.

2. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?
I really enjoyed the Raft and minecraft assignments. They allowed me to expand my knowledge in this course, as I have not used them before. The sketchup, and photoshop assigniments were not as interesting as I have done them before but I was still learning new tools so it was worth it.

3. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?
I struggled only with the SketchUp assignments. The program sometimes was freezing or lagging which made me not like the program.

Game Journalism Day 4 - Upgrades

Game Journalism Day 4 - Upgrades

5 Things I have upgraded

1. (Axe) -What does it do better?

The metal axe is better because it is more durable and breaks items faster.

2. (Hook) -What's the difference?

The difference is that the metal hook is more durable and is faster to throw and reel in.

3. (Storage) -How does this help?

The Large storage helps because the room is expanded so it takes up less space and holds more items.

4. (Fishing Rod) -Why did you do it?

I did this because the metal fishing rod lasts longer and it catches fish faster.

5. (Crop Lot) -Was it worth it - why?

The large crop lot was definitely worth it because in the large crop lot I can plant trees. I can plant mango trees and coconut trees. In the medium one I can only plant small things like pineapples, beets, and potatoes.

Game Journalism Play 4

1. First 10 steps

  1. Collect debris that is floating by
  2.  Make a cup with  4 pieces of plastic.
  3. Make a water purifier so you can drink fresh water. You need 6 palm leafs, 6 planks, and 4 plastic.
  4. Make sure to grab barrels because they have food sometimes. You can eat the food raw or cook it.
  5. Make a crop lot to plant your crops. For a small one you need 6 planks and 4 rope.
  6. Make a scare crow so birds do not come and steal your crops. For this you need 5 plank, 3 leaves, 3 nails, and 3 plastic.
  7. Make a grill to cook your food so you get more nourishment. You need 6 planks, 1 scrap metal,          and 3 rope
  8. Expand your raft with the building hammer. For this tool you need 4 planks and 2 rope
  9. Make a spear so you can defend your raft from the shark. For this you need 8 planks 3 rope.
 10. Discover islands and other rafts to get items that are not found in barrels or in the ocean.

2. What is the best tool to make for survival?

The best tool to make for survival is the hook. The hooks allows you to get the debris floating by. Without this tool it would be hard to make any other tool so this is the best tool for surviving.

3.  Your raft to date (IMAGE). What is the best feature on your raft?

On my raft I added a large crop lot so I can grow trees and I added 3 storage boxes.
The best feature on my raft is the sail because I can use it to move the raft in whichever direction I can.

Game Journalism Play 3

1. What NEW things did you build today? [IMAGE]

Today I built two storage boxes and a collection net.

2. How will these NEW things help you play the game (TIPS&TRICKS)?

These new things will help me play the game because with the storage boxes I have more space for my items. The collection net collects the debris that I miss.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?

Tomorrow I am going to focus on finding more islands and expanding my raft as well as killing another shark because the shark meat is a very good source of food.

4. Add a picture of your raft. (include a caption)
Explain why you built the raft the way you did.

I built the raft this way because it is the most efficient way to keep my stuff away from the shark. So I put my important stuff all in the middle so the shark can not break it.

Game Journalism Play 2

Game Journalism Play 2

1. What specifically did you do today?

Today I found an island and got some food. With the food I got from the island I made a small farm. I also added some walls to my raft and expanded it. I also added a medium crop lot  and a scarecrow to keep the birds away. I also made an anchor and a paddle.

2. What did you learn about how to play the game (TIPS&TRICKS)?

Today I learned that I can switch my building hammer to build walls and not just floors. To do this you just need to right click on your mouse while holding the build hammer. Also I learned that to kill the shark you need a weapon like the spear to kill it.

3. What strategies are you going to try to focus on tomorrow?

I am going to focus on planting more foods and killing the shark as well as expanding my raft and maybe adding a second story.

4. The Raft

My raft is like this because I believe it is the most efficient way to keep my stuff away from the shark with the limited amount of resources I have. I decided to put everything in the middle so if the shark does bite my raft he will only bite the edges and my items will be safe.

Game Journalism Day 1 - Basics

Game Journalism Day 1 - Basics

Start Screen

What the game is about
The game is about surviving and expanding your raft to get lots of supplies and making it a raft that cannot be destroyed. There are lots of obstacles such as the shark biting the raft. Also hunger and thirst.

What I see

I see no islands right now just and open ocean
How to collect debris

One way is to use the plastic hook. You throw the hook and reel it in.

The other way is to let the item come close to you and then press "e"

This is my raft. I have a sail, a grill, a water purifier and a research table.

This is a barrel. You get multiple items from this.
                                          This is a leaf
This is a gallon which gives you plastic

This gallon also gives you plastic

 This item also gives plastic

This tube also gives plastic

This is the a plank. It gives you wood

This is a shark attacking my raft. But since I have the build hammer I can replace it easily.

Why I died

I died because I was going into the water thinking the shark would not see me but he saw me and bit me. Something I can do to stop this is not go into the water. I also died from starvation because I did not have enough food. I can stop this by going on the islands and possibly finding some food.
